What to Expect After Accepting an Offer on Your Home
Accepting an offer on your property is a big moment — but it’s far from the end of the process. As an experienced estate agent in Mill Hill, we guide sellers through what happens next, helping avoid delays and unexpected issues.
Here’s what to expect once an offer has been agreed.
1. Memorandum of Sale
Once the offer is accepted, your estate agent will prepare a Memorandum of Sale. This document confirms the details of the buyer, seller, solicitors, and the agreed price. It’s sent to both sets of solicitors to get the legal process underway.
2. Conveyancing Begins
Your solicitor (or conveyancer) will carry out the legal work needed to transfer ownership. This includes reviewing the title, raising enquiries, and working with the buyer’s solicitor to move things forward. The buyer will also instruct a surveyor at this stage.
We stay in touch with both sides to make sure communication doesn’t break down — a key part of keeping things on track.
3. Property Surveys and Enquiries
The buyer may order a survey, depending on whether they’re buying with a mortgage or cash. It’s normal for questions to follow this, often around boundaries, extensions, or lease details if it’s a flat. Your solicitor will handle these with input from you where needed.
As a Mill Hill estate agent, we’re familiar with many local building styles and common survey points, which helps keep conversations productive if concerns are raised.
4. Exchange of Contracts
Once the legal work and finance are in place, both sides sign and exchange contracts. This is the point where the sale becomes legally binding and a completion date is set.
We’ll confirm all final arrangements with you and the buyer, and help manage any last-minute issues.
5. Completion
On the agreed day, funds are transferred, keys are handed over, and the sale completes. You’ll no longer have any legal responsibility for the property. If you’re also buying, we’ll help make sure your move aligns smoothly with the chain.
At Forest Knight, we don’t step back once an offer is agreed. As your local Mill Hill estate agent, we stay involved from start to finish — pushing things forward, keeping you informed, and helping solve issues before they become problems.
